A Summer Walking Program with Our Chiropractor near Shelby

Whether you are new to chiropractic care, are considering alternative treatments for your health or have been using chiropractic adjustment as part of your wellness plan, you understand the importance of a complete approach. At Carolina Chiropractic Plus, we use a holistic plan to care for you. Invest in a supportive pair of shoes to keep your knees, ankles, hips and back healthy. If you are new to walking, use the following tips to motivate you and keep you safe:

  • Begin with a 3 to 5-minute warm-up - Walk at a slower pace to prepare your body for your walk. 
  • Increase your speed to a pace that leaves you somewhat breathless - You should be able to talk, but not able to sing. If you are gasping for air, you are walking too fast.
  • Maintain this pace for a minimum of 10 minutes - If your fitness level allows, aim for a 30-minute walk. As you improve, continue to increase the duration up to 60 minutes.
  • Walk in a heel to the motion - Let your heel strike the ground first and then roll through your foot to your toes. Swing your arms to burn more calories and help with balance. Look straight ahead and aim to keep your chin parallel to the ground. Tighten your core by pulling your belly button toward your spine and keep your back straight.
  • Cool down with a 3 to 5 minute slower walk - Then, stretch your legs and lower back.
  • If the weather interferes with your daily walk, bring it indoors and march in place or walk around your house.
  • Aim to walk on a daily basis or a minimum of three days a week.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after your walk.
  • Listen to music if it motivates you or brings a friend to remain accountable.
